Voice-controlled speakers are slowly making our lives easier. You can command them into turning the lights on and off among many other cool commands. But did you know you can also use them to control compatible major appliances?

There are a few uses in the kitchen. Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home can help you maintain a grocery list. Just say “Hey, Google” or “Alexa” and follow that with “Add eggs to my shopping list”.
When cooking, you may need to convert units from recipes. Ask your assistant to do that for you. Tell your assistant to “convert 2 cups to millilitres” for example.
For dishes to turn out perfect, ask your assistant to set timers on your oven. They’re also able to set their own timers if you need more than one timer at once.
If you have a compatible coffee maker or a compatible smart switch, you can ask your assistant to start the coffee maker. The same applies to smart cookers.
Because your assistant pretty much knows everything, ask about calorie counts or wine pairings and ask it to play your favourite music as you cook.
Depending on the appliances you own, you may be able to control your washer, dryer, fridge, range, dishwasher, TV, and other appliances with your voice assistant. Your assistant can do a range of things including starting appliances, stopping them, checking on their status and pre-heating your oven.
