How long have you been with Trail Appliances?
I started with Trail Appliances in 2008. At the time, I was considering a change in careers and a co-worker suggested I send my resume. During my interview with the President of the company, I quickly realized this was a company that truly cares about its customers and its employees.
What do you love most about your job?
Every day I get to work side by side with consummate professionals. Our sales team are some of the most knowledgeable in the industry. In fact, manufacturers often have to “customize” their product training just for us, in order to cover the more technical questions that we delve into.
What was your first job?
My very first “grown up” job was working at Newman’s Fine Dining, a 4-Diamond Award-Winning restaurant in St. John’s, NL. I was initially hired as a Bus Person, but with a lot of dedication, I was able to learn about French Cuisine, wine types and pairings, and the art of “French Service.” After several months, I was able to get the position of Captain Waiter. My first time flambéing a Chateaubriand at tableside was a little nerve-wracking, but I got through it without the Fire Department being involved!
What do you find new and exciting with appliances?
The most exciting thing about appliances today would be how customers are able to use and interact with them. More and more manufacturers are embracing the idea of “Smart” appliances. The technology is in place where you can say “Hey, Alexa… how much time is left before my clothes are dry?” Or, “Hey Bixby… Show me a picture of what’s in my refrigerator.”
What’s one of your favourite movies and why?
I’d have to say “The Shawshank Redemption” is one of my favourites. It has quite a powerful statement, to watch the main character, Andy Dufresne, endure struggle after struggle, but with grace and dignity the whole while. In the end, he is redeemed, but it’s how he handles himself that makes him such a great character.
