Home Appliance Cleaning: Stainless Steel Appliances & Ceran Cooktops

When you buy a new home appliance, you probably have the best intentions of keeping them clean and shiny. But often, it isn’t long before fingerprints – and frustrations – start building up.

Save yourself time and frustration with these cleaning tips from our product experts:

Stainless Steel Appliances

If you’ve ever tried using just water to clean your stainless steel appliances, you’ve probably discovered that it doesn’t remove fingerprints. Restore your appliances to their sparkling state by using a special cleaner for stainless steel surfaces.

Spray the cleaner on the surface of your stainless steel appliance.

Wipe with a dry cloth.

Gently rub with a second piece of dry cloth.

You can use paper towels instead of a cloth, but since some paper towels are rough, be sure to wipe along the grain of the stainless steel to prevent scratches. It’s important to note that cleaners that are not made to clean stainless steel may damage your stainless steel surface.

Ceran Cooktops

There are two kinds of cleaners available. The most recommended is a cleaner especially made for ceran cooktops. The second, being the cheapest way is baking powder.

Clean with special Ceran cleaner:

Place the cleaner on the cooktop surface

Use either paper towel, or a non-scratch scrub sponge to wipe (do not use the green side of your yellow-green dishwashing sponge)

If there are stubborn stains, with a special small scraper (it may come with your purchase from certain brands) slowly scrape stains off in a 45-degree angle

Clean with baking powder:

Sprinkle baking powder on the cooktop surface

Soak a towel with a dishwashing detergent

lightly squeeze the towel to get rid of excessive water and then spread it over the cooktop

Wait for 15 minutes

Wipe with a soft dry cloth
