How to Get Your Home Ready for the Winter

<p>Seems like everywhere in Canada (<em>yes</em>, even the West Coast) was hit by a series of snowstorms and cold weather spell. We understand that most of us are struggling with the frigid winter air- that’s why we chatted with our designer partner <a title="Jamie Banfield" href="https://www.jamiebanfield.ca/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jamie Banfield</a> to give you some tips and tricks to add cozy back to your space.</p> <p><!--more--></p> <!-- <p><img src="https://www.trailappliances.com/media/wysiwyg/blog/jamie-768x510.jpg" alt="Jamie Banfield" width="768" height="510"></p> --> <p><strong>1.  Get yourself some candles – <em>nice</em> candles. </strong></p> <p>Why? Because candles are probably the easiest and quickest way to alter the mood of your space. Picture yourself unwinding after a long day at work with a cup of tea (or a glass of wine) in a cold, dark winter afternoon. Lighting those candles will bring warmth and add such a nuance to help you feel even more relaxed, or as the Danish calls it <strong><em>‘hygge’</em></strong>.</p> <p>Picking the right candle could be overwhelming because it totally depends on your personal preference. This winter, Jamie has been burning the <a title="‘Atlantic’" href="https://www.vancouvercandleco.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">‘Atlantic’</a> from <a title="Vancouver Candle Co" href="https://www.instagram.com/vancouvercandleco/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vancouver Candle Co</a> in his space. The note of lavender, bergamot, and violet adds a beautiful floral and crisp aroma to the room.</p> <!-- <p><img src="https://www.trailappliances.com/media/wysiwyg/blog/MACCS.jpg" alt="Coffee Table Book" width="768" height="960"></p> --> <p><strong>2. Blankets</strong></p> <p>Blankets play a <em>crucial</em> role in cozying up your winter days. ”I personally never let my blanket to be more than three feet away from me, especially when I’m on the couch, binging on some Netflix” says Jamie. You also need to make sure that there’s enough blankets for your guests, especially when you’re hosting a winter soiree.</p> <p>Just like candles, blankets come in all shapes and sizes. Lately, Jamie’s been a fan of this <a title="color-block wool blanket" href="https://www2.hm.com/en_ca/productpage.0647635002.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">color-block wool blanket</a> from H&M. The wool gives you more texture, and it’s naturally a warmer material. Another option is this <a title="cotton-blend throw" href="https://www2.hm.com/en_ca/productpage.0698652002.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cotton-blend throw</a>. It’s slightly thinner (and cheaper) than the wool ones but this one is machine-washable and you can actually use this one <em>all year long</em>.</p> <!-- <p><img src="https://www.trailappliances.com/media/wysiwyg/blog/coziem-pin.jpg" alt="Living Room Design" width="564" height="564"></p> --> <p><strong>3. Invest in some good bed sheets.</strong></p> <p>The rule of thumb is, the more time you spend on (or in) it, the more money you should put into it. Since we typically spend 6-8 hours a day in bed <em>(yes, that’s a third of our day</em>), why not start investing more money in our bed sheet – you’d be surprised how much better you’d feel when you crawl into a bed that’s covered with a high(er)-quality sheet, it really is, a feel of luxury.</p> <p><a title="Brooklinen" href="https://www.brooklinen.com/collections/luxe-sateen-sheets/products/luxe-hardcore-sheet-bundle?color1=solid-white" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brooklinen</a> has been Jamie’s go-to when it comes to great quality bed-sheets, but if you’re looking for something more budget friendly, H&M home also has some great <a title="options" href="https://www2.hm.com/en_ca/productpage.0188589002.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">options</a>. Another tip on bed sheets: <em>don’t be afraid to mix fabrics and textures.</em></p> <!-- <p><img src="https://www.trailappliances.com/media/wysiwyg/blog/WHITE-TERRY.jpg" alt="Bedroom Design Inspiration" width="872" height="960"></p> --> <p><strong>4. Diffuser </strong></p> <p>A <a title="diffuser" href="https://www.saje.com/ca/diffusers/aroma-om-gold-marble-702263.html?cgid=diffusers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">diffuser</a>, in general, is a great investment for your space. Just like candles, you can easily modify the atmosphere of your apartment with <em>a click</em>. Especially in the winter time, when it’s wet and dreary outside, you can add a touch ‘<a title="liquid sunshine" href="https://www.saje.com/ca/diffusers-and-blends/liquid-sunshine-4054.html?cgid=diffusers-and-blends" target="_blank" rel="noopener">liquid sunshine</a>’ to uplift your mood with this essential oil from Saje, or if you want to feel more relaxed, give the ‘<a title="chill out" href="https://www.saje.com/ca/diffusers-and-blends/chill-out-4484.html?cgid=diffusers-and-blends" target="_blank" rel="noopener">chill out</a>’ a try. The blend of sandlewood, pine and sage will surely add the element of tranquility to your surroundings. Some diffusers even let you program them so they are on just in time you get home.</p> <!-- <p><img src="https://www.trailappliances.com/media/wysiwyg/blog/2018_HOLIDAY_BLOG_INLINE_2_1000X1000.jpg" alt="Saje" width="1000" height="1000"></p> --> <p>We hope these items will help you stay warm and cozy during the winter season.
