The new year is here and you probably have some new year goals in mind. Planning and setting goals is definitely important, but how many times have we given up on the way?
Here are some tips to consider in order to actually reach your goal.
Set a goal with keeping yourself in mind - In the process of setting a goal, the only person that matters is you. You get to decide on the goal, timeline, process and of course, how important the goal is to you. After all, it is you who has to put in the work. Whether it’s hitting that aerobics class, losing that weight, or finishing that course, you need to put in the work. Setting a goal that is meaningful can help keep you focused and more motivated to eventually reach it.
Set realistic goals - Just like it’s not realistic to have someone transition from a couch potato to racing in a triathlon within one month, it is not realistic to go on a weight loss plan which will have you losing a large amount of weight in a very short time. Neither would it be healthy or sustainable. Setting small and attainable goals is key to success and allows you to see progress while allowing you to enjoy the journey and not only focus on the goal. For example, if you want to lose 15-20 pounds 6 months from now, focus on losing no more than 3 pounds per month. That way it will be easier to manage and increase the chances of reaching your goal.
Choose one goal you are ready to start right now - Preparing and having a step-by-step plan is a good way to go about reaching a goal but be mindful about not remaining in preparation mode. Move into action as soon as possible. For example, if you want to increase your water consumption, have a plan which specifies how much water you’ll drink daily, place water bottles in different locations, maybe download a water-tracking app but don’t wait too long. Start with drinking a glass of water first thing tomorrow morning.
