When replacing an appliance, all too often we measure the appliance itself or we assume it comes in 'standard' size. At one point, that may have been true, but these days, appliances come in various dimensions. Take refrigerators, for example.
Some are deeper. If you aren't buying a counter-depth or built-in fridge you'll notice how deep fridges have become...some hitting the 3 ft. mark. Depending on your kitchen layout, getting the incorrect size might restrict space with an awkwardly jutted fridge.
Some are taller. Having a brand new fridge and realizing the cabinet above will have to be taken out because it’s taller than your old fridge is a frustrating thing.
Fitting issues are avoidable by taking a few seconds to measure the space where the appliance will be installed.
Before you buy a new fridge, stove or dishwasher, measure the current WIDTH x HEIGHT x DEPTH of the space. If there is an island or walls in close proximity, jot those dimensions down as well. Sometimes corner pantries interfere with a fridge that is too deep.
A picture of your kitchen will also make it easier for the sales consultant to recommend the appropriate appliance for the space. Perfect appliance fit = no headache.
