Ah, the microwave. It takes up precious counter space, but it’s always there for us when we arrive home from work tired and hungry. Along with being a great way to pop corn, this gadget can also be used for baking, and even brunch. Here we give you three recipes that maximize the powers of your microwave.
These three ingenious microwave hacks give new meaning to the term “smart appliance.”
1. Espresso Coffee Foam: Forget those pricey foam gadgets. Perfectly frothy milk for your macchiatos and lattes can be made right in your microwave, according to J. Kenji López-Alt, author of The Food Lab: Better Home Cooking Through Science. First, grab a sealable, microwave-safe container about the size of a pint and fill it with half a cup of either 2%, 1%, or skim milk (sorry, soy or nut milks won’t work here).Next, vigorously shake the sealed container until you have a thick, rich foam. Microwave it on the High setting for 15 to 20 seconds and, presto! An Italian café—minus the airfare. Via oprah.com
2. Five-Minute Chocolate Cake. Yes, you read that right. You can bake a personal-size (and ridiculously rich) chocolate cake right in your microwave. Start with the largest mug you own. Next, scoop in the following items:
Four tablespoons of flour
Four tablespoons of granulated sugar
One heaping tablespoon of cocoa
Three tablespoons of milk
Three tablespoons of oil
Two tablespoons of whisked egg
A splash of vanilla
Using a metal spoon, mix the ingredients together until smooth, then add three tablespoons of chocolate chips. Place the mug in the microwave and cook on High for two minutes and 30 seconds. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and enjoy! Via instructables.com
3. French Toast. Want French Toast—fast? Rub a little butter into the bottom of a mug, then fill it to the top with bread cut into inch-thick pieces. In a separate small bowl, use a fork to whisk together one egg, three tablespoons of milk and a dash of cinnamon. Pour this mixture over the chopped bread and microwave for one minute. Drizzle on a little maple syrup and you’re done! _Via rd.com_Check out our selection of countertop and built-in microwaves!
