Winter & Hydration

It is just as important to drink plenty of water in the winter as it is in the summer. When it comes down to it, water should really be a part of our daily sustenance, much like food, because water quenches our cells and makes them efficient at their job in maintaining our existence.

Sometimes though, water can be a challenge to drink, let's face it....it's so blah...lacking in colour and taste. Having said that, all you need to do is jazz it up and you'll sure to fall for water. Watch yourself unable to stop drinking it!

Here are a few ways to make drinking water out of the ordinary:

Add flavour to it. There are powders out there but fresh would be much more refreshing and beneficial. Slice some fruits, vegetables or herbs and let their taste and fragrance infuse into your drink.

If fruits, veggies & herbs aren’t your style, reach for tea. There are various types out there to choose from. Tea also has great benefits for our bodies.

When you have a craving for soda, why not have sparkling water? It gives you that effervescent effect sodas do. Or the still mineral water with a squeeze of lemon also makes a great drink.

Other tips to ensure hydration:

Use a reminder app to alert you when it’s time to have a drink (water, we mean). Apps also keep track of your fluid intake throughout the day.

Get into the habit of drinking after each bathroom trip.

Fill up your water bottle the moment you empty it to avoid getting distracted and dehydrating.

Incorporate water-rich foods into your diet. Some examples are cucumber, watermelon, zucchini and grapefruit.

If you’re exercising, make sure to bring a water bottle and finish it all during the workout.

Make sure to drink water as well when you drink your coffee. Because coffee contains caffeine, a diuretic, you end up losing more fluid.

Keeping hydrated is well and good but make sure you consider the quality of the water you drink. Tap water goes through rigorous treatment via the municipal plants, with most contaminants taken out. However, the treatment process itself can leave unwanted residues. Kinetico Drinking Water Systems ensure the purity of drinking water.
